I know that I have a side bar of the books that I have read or am currently going through... but check out these that are just firing up my passion...
- Craig Groeschel's new book "It." Unbelievable and right on target. I'm going to take our leadership though this one!
- Mark Batterson's "Wild Goose Chase." I see another sermon series coming in 2009!
- Kerry Shook's "One Month To Live." Right on with Tim McGraw's hit... "Live Like You Were Dying."
- John Maxwell's "Leadership Gold." What can I say... the man's a Leadership Guru!
- Tom Brokaw's "The Greatest Generation." This is in preparation for our "Whatever It Takes... Investing For Eternity" campaign.
Now some may ask... "Bob, how do you read so many books?" I make time. To me... reading is so important to my spiritual, relational, and leadership growth. I think it was John Maxwell who said, "Leaders read. When they stop reading... they stop leading." But it's more than reading... it's digesting and implementing. Do I believe everything I read? No. But the wisdom available is so invaluable that if I don't read everyday... my leading suffers... and my growth is hindered...
Someone asked me when I was going to write a book... my answer... when I've finished the books that I need to read... Ha. Could be a very long time!
Bob, I'm also reading Craig Groeschel’s book "It: How Churches and Leaders Can Get It and Keep It." The illusive "it" is what attracts people and makes ministries effective. Craig says "it" can't be taught, but "it" can be caught. God gives "it." "It" has a lot to do with the Holy Spirit. Churches that have "it" are incredibly focused, willing to fail, led by people who have "it," and those people see potential when others see problems. Craig says "the spark of passion ignites the fuel for innovation." And he says "it" follows big vision. God makes "it" happen. "It" is from him, by him, and for his glory.
