Wow! What a difference a day can make! To begin each day with the thought... "God, what matters most to you today... help me that it will also matter most to me"... it changes our perspectives, passions, and priorities! And the desire of our hearts to passionately love God with all our emotions... everything that makes up our hearts... literally brings us closer in our relationship with Him. But... it's not just our hearts that we are to love God completely with.
God also wants us to love Him with all our soul. The Old Testament uses the word, "nephesh" which means the life that God breathes into us. When God breathed life into Adam, that life, that image is what separates us from everything else God created. If you think about it... we all have God's breath living in us... it's our soul! It's what lives forever. It's our central core... if you will. And what matters to God is that we love Him right down to our core and through it!
Tom Holladay, in his book, "The Relationship Principles Of Jesus" gives 3 great actions to help us love God with our souls... He writes...
- To love God with all our soul it to seek Him passionately.
- To love God with all our soul is to love Him personally.
- To love God with all our soul is to decide to do what He wants you to do.
Have you ever looked at the prayers of Jesus? In His heart to heart conversations with His Father (our Father as well) He is so passionate, personal, and aligning His will with His Father's Will. One of Jesus' prayers that really challenges me, is to pray as Jesus prayed, "Father, not my will, but Your will be done." It connects the way Jesus taught us to pray, "Father, may Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." Completely!
Today.... "Father, not my will, but Yours be done!" I want to love you with all my soul. Here's another clip and song that speaks my desire..
